Chal·de·a or Chal·dae·a (kăl-dēə)
An ancient region of southern Mesopotamia. Settled c. 1000 B.C., it reached the height of its power under Nebuchadnezzar II. The Chaldean empire was destroyed by Persians in 539 B.C.
