Bo‧wie, James /ˈbəʊi $ ˈbaʊi/
(1790–1836) a US adventurer born in Kentucky who invented the Bowie knife (a large knife with a curved blade). Bowie supported the cause of Texan independence from Mexico, and shared command of the
Alamo, where he was killed.
